Aims.
Where we look helps us make sense of our environment and informs our decisions. By recording eye movement behaviour we can objectively investigate how people search and interact with their world. A BPS research seminar series marks the establishment of the North West Visual Cognition group. The group is being developed as an emerging centre of excellence. It will be a forum for researchers at all stages of their careers to help share resources and build networks to support fundamental and translational science related to visual cognition.

The research seminar series we have designed to launch the group is focused on using eye movements to understand real world behaviour. The series comprises four one-day seminars hosted over a two-year period. Each seminar will be focused on a specific theme that encompasses the current and emerging interests and expertise of researchers within the North West region. The themes are Visual Attention; Eye movements, Language, and Development; Spectatorship; and Applications. The themes align with a set of distinct real-world issues that are an ideal basis for the development of future research funding applications. A key goal is to help promote and discuss the research conducted by postgraduates and early career researchers through to more established academics. This will allow a more co-ordinated approach that makes better use of the expertise and resources in the region.
