Research Seminar at Edge Hill University

On Nov 20th, 2019 Prof Nick Donnelly was invited to the Edge Hill University to give a talk titled “Using visual perception research to enhance the detection of threats in public spaces”

Abstract

isual perception research has been used to understand and improve performance in many applied vision tasks (e.g. the detection of tumours in radiological images, and guns, knives and bombs in x-ray baggage search). This body of work has identified a number reasons why targets are missed by searchers (e.g. the Prevalence effect, Dual-target cost). In this talk I will describe recent work that I and my colleagues have conducted where we seek to improve threat detection in the general public by providing information that identifies, and seeks to overcome, the reasons leading to missed targets.
